Navigator 4.0

The Lab has taken on the project of a vast overhaul of the Navigator LMS. A survey was taken in the fall of 2010 to assess the opinions of the current medical students. The survey consisted of multiple choice and open text questions that ranged from look and feel to the technological performance of the LMS. Currently, the Lab’s programmers are honing a user friendly interface, and new functionality that will, for example, allow students to view courses they are currently in rather than all courses that are available to them. The lab expects the first round of updates to be complete for the 2011-2012 academic year.

vpSim 2.0

The creation of the second version of vpSim is underway. vpSim 2.0 will include a new case management system with the “Case List” and “Edit Case” screens completely redesigned to make case management and case editing easier and more intuitive. There will also be an auto-save feature for “Edit Case” screen. vpSim 2.0 will include case assignments which will allow case authors to assign cases to specific learners. Authors will be able to specify which cases learners will see in the “My Cases” section of the case list and configure automated email reminders to learners who have not completed assigned cases. Another new feature will be node-level rules, so that authors will have the option to set up rules on specific nodes, not just for the entire case. Case validation will also be improved. Finally, another update will be custom counter labels. This will let authors define two custom counters to track learners performance through a case.
